This has been a long time coming, over five years to be exact. I first began this site back in 2010 as a passion project, a way to pay respect and show support to all the incredible individuals of color who were doing amazing work centered around food. This space brought me joy in a way that many other projects hadn't. I kept it up for about two years and then life got in the way and I had to step away. I would have to comb through the archives but I think I put up my last post sometime in 2012.
Since The Blacker The Berry Food went dark, I unfortunately lost both my mother and mother-in-law to cancer in addition to my beloved grandfather who inspired all of my culinary dreams. With the ending of the original blog also marked the ending of my freelance career as a culinary entrepreneur. I am now back to the land of the nine to five, working in academia which I love. But in spite of the fact that like many, this working mother of two is already burning the candle at multiple ends, I missed having a creative outlet. So I thought why not return to the thing that once brought me such joy.
This time around I'm doing things a little differently. I often said that if I dived back into the world of online media I wouldn't do a blog, but writing is a big part of who I am so you will see some blog posts from time to time. But the big change is the PODCAST! I have always wanted to do a podcast, the medium really feeds the closet NPR commentator in me just dying to come out so I'm taking the plunge and giving it a go. Not only will you get to read about all of the great folks I'm discovering but now you can listen to them too. And it won't just be friends of the culinary world, I'll be talking to lifestyle experts, musicians, artists of all types, and everyday folks like you and me. I'm still working my way through the technical end of things but I should have something for you to hear soon...stay tuned!
